What Is GYLON® Gasket Material?
GYLON® is a family of high-performance PTFE-based gasket materials developed for demanding industrial sealing applications. While conventional PTFE offers excellent chemical resistance, it can experience creep and cold flow under load. GYLON® materials are engineered to provide improved dimensional stability while maintaining many of the chemical-resistant properties that make PTFE valuable in industrial sealing applications.
Different GYLON® grades use specific fillers and constructions to provide performance characteristics suited for different process conditions. GYLON® vs. Standard PTFE Gaskets
Both GYLON® and conventional PTFE gasket materials can provide excellent chemical resistance, but their performance characteristics are not identical. Standard PTFE is valued for its broad chemical resistance and low friction characteristics. However, conventional PTFE can be susceptible to creep and cold flow when subjected to sustained compressive loads.
GYLON® materials are engineered to improve dimensional stability and sealing performance while retaining the chemical-resistant characteristics associated with PTFE.
